(I do not mean any disrespect toward anyone who is sick with the Covid-19 virus. It is just that, since I recorded “Country Roads” recently, the song was on my mind the other day as I thought about how much life had changed. Last month I left Nashville and am here in the area of the Smoky Mountains at my mother’s house during this time of shut-down in TN, so she does not have to get out. I want to help her stay well and get groceries for her. That being said, all of the preventative rules are enough to drive a healthy person crazy! I woke up and began writing this and had a good laugh).
Almost heaven, faces covered,
And we are all afraid of each other
Life is old here pollen’s on the trees
Birds are singing, and we’re all afraid to sneeze
Take me home country roads to the place I belong
Before I had to wear a face mask
And saying Hello was not a hard task
People couped up filled with boredom
Some are skyping singing for them
Will we lose our minds inside so long
Trusting the experts, but what if Dr. Fouci’s wrong
Take me home, country roads,
To the place I belong,
When getting groceries used to be easy
And life was not measured by someone sneezing
I hear her voice in the mornin’ hours she calls me
The TV reminds me of the virus 24/7 and driving down the road I get the feeling that I think I coughed yesterday yesterday
Take me home country roads to the place I belong
