Kindline Magazine Features “My People” by Dwayna Litz

Dwayna Litz’s most recent single, “My People,” is both a musical tribute and a timely piece of social commentary. The track turns sadness and anger into a unifying anthem because of the controversial things Donald Trump said after the death of Hollywood legend Rob Reiner in December 2025. Litz’s mission is clear, to support “the black, yellow, red, white, and blue” and to promote love rather than hate in a world that is often divided.

“My People” is a great example of how to mix genres in music, Litz’s voice has a warmth that reminds me of Dolly Parton, and the instruments evoke Elton John and Billy Joel. The sound is both familiar and completely new, blending elements of pop, rock, jazz, and country. The song’s arrangement blends soaring melodies with more personal sections, helping Dwayna’s message of acceptance and compassion really hit home with listeners.

The single is a powerful reminder of how music can reflect the spirit of the times and is also a great song. Litz’s dedication of the release to Rob Reiner gives her call for unity real emotion, making each lyric and chord feel urgent and important. Her honest statement against hate, along with the real sadness that inspires her, turns the song from a simple tribute into a powerful call for understanding and support.

“My People” is more than just a song, it’s a statement, Dwayna Litz shows that art and activism can work together to create a piece that prompts people to think, talk, and act. This release shows that she is an artist brave enough to speak out against injustice, celebrate diversity, and turn her own and others’ personal and political experiences into music that affects everyone. The single is an invitation to come together, heal, and remember how strong love is. —Kindline Magazine

New Single by Dwayna Litz “My People”

Dwayna Litz was called an “Artist to Watch” by Spin Magazine in 2025. She has songs published with Universal Music, Spirit Music and her own ASCAP publishing company, Litz Music. Dwayna has a sound all her own with elements of rock, country, pop, Jazz, bluegrass and Gospel all in one and has close to 2M cumulative views on her YouTube page for “Dwayna Litz Music.” Moving to Nashville at only 17, her first major cut came with Patti LaBelle for her Grammy nominated, Gold album, “Flame.”

Dwayna Litz’s latest single, “My People,” was inspired when Donald Trump made rude comments after Hollywood movie producer Rob Reiner’s death (Dec. 2025), as if he was glad Rob Reiner died. “My People” is for more unity in America, including against racism, as Dwayna is “standing with the black, yellow (Asians), red (Native American Indians) white and blue” in her latest single–those who are on the side of love, not on the side of hate. This two-song release is dedicated to the memory of Rob Reiner.

The sound is reminiscent of Elton John or Billy Joel, but with the Dolly-like warmth to Dwayna’s voice, “My People” transcends that to combine pop, rock, Jazz and country all in one for a unique sound, all its own. With Nick Reiner’s trial resuming (for allegedly killing his father, Rob Reiner, and his mother), “I’m Gonna Leave the Light On,” the second song, is timely, as it was reported that the parents did all they knew to help their son, Nick, in and out of rehab throughout his life for drug addiction. From a fiddle to a saxophone, “I’m Gonna Leave the Light On” is dedicated to all parents with drug addicted, adult kids.

Rob Reiner made the American culture better through movies like “Stand by Me” and “When Harry Met Sally.” Dwayna Litz releases this 2-song release of “My People” in his memory, hoping to also make the American culture a little better, too, one person at a time.

Credits for “My People” and “I’m Gonna Leave the Light On”: lyrics and music by Dwayna Litz/ Litz Music (ASCAP); co-produced by Dwayna Litz and Tim Crouch (fiddle, mandolin, guitars); Steve Brewster (drums); Ryan Jones (piano); James Mitchell (electric guitar); Duncan Mullins (electric bass); Randal Clark (saxophone); Mark Niemiec (recording engineer); Billy Decker (mixing engineer); nSpire Design (graphics); recorded at Soundstage Studios, Nashville, TN.
